Why Do Most People Oppose the LTN?

🔴 B&NES admitted the ETRO was unlawful.

• 76% oppose ETRO (1,400+ people)

• 70% oppose in Bathwick (552 vs. 236)

• 72% support in New Sydney Road (only 56 households)

• 12 opposition counsellors have called in the decision to make the LTN permanent. 

📌 Traffic Impact 

• ⬆ 40% more traffic on Beckford Road (+3,000 vehicles/day)

• ⬆ 23% increase on North Road

• ⬆ 22% increase on Cleveland Walk

• ⬆ 35% increase on Sham Castle Lane

• ❗ 3,000 extra vehicles will flood back once A36 reopens!

📌 Economic & Environmental Costs 

• ⌛ 14,000 extra delay hours per year

• 🌍 +33 tonnes of CO2 per year

• 💸 70% increase in costs per LN, and B&NES still can't estimate the final costs!

🛑 Headteacher, Mr. Purkiss shared with the council the school's concerns that the LTN had significantly increased traffic on the main road..with an immediate impact on children's safety. 

🛑 In a recent parent travel survey for local primary school, Bathwick St. Mary's, 84% of parent responses said they would like to walk to school more often but 28% of parents say they already feel unsafe travelling to school. This will be made worse with an additional 3000+ vehicles on the route to school. Darlington Road is now of significant concern to pedestrians and parents walking with children to school. 

🛑 No equalities impact assessments were made for any of the 'losing' communities forced to absorb the additional traffic.
